Homelessness - Toiletry Kits

Homelessness
Toiletry Kits

Your club can help children living in shelters or in foster care by assembling simple Kids Care Clubs Toiletry Kits.

These kits can also be sent to Haiti, Niger or Mongollia, through a partnership Kids Care Clubs has with Fraternite Notre Dame, in New York City.

Materials Needed:

All items must be NEW:.

  • A 1-gallon size plastic zip lock bag
  • 1 toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • 1 large comb or small hairbrush
  • 1 face cloth
  • 1 bar of soap
  • 1 "fun" item such as a NEW "Beanie-baby", matchbox car, crayons or packet of stickers

Steps Involved:

  1. Discuss with your club why kids living in shelters or in foster care might need these items. (poverty and natural disasters).
  2. Connect with an agency that serves kids in need.
  3. Decide how you will collect the items- through your club members or school community.
  4. Make posters and decorate drop boxes.
  5. Call a meeting and assemble the kits. All kits should have new items only. You would not want to use used toiletries or combs.
  6. Make all kits equal. The kits might be distributed in a group setting and it is better if all children receive a similar kit.
  7. Include a homemade card or drawing- signed "from a kid who cares".
  8. Deliver to your recipient organization or if you would like to send these kits to an orphanage in Haiti, Niger or to children in Mongolia send them to:

Alternative Project:

Make kits for adults in shelters. Instead of a fun item include travel sized shampoo.
