Mail Call for the Honor Flight Network
The Barka Kids Care Club in Derry, NH recently participated in sending letters to World War II veterans who were travelling to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, with the Honor Flight Network.
Honor Flight Network was started by Earl Morse, a retired Air Force Captain. In May of 2004, the World War II Memorial was completed. After seeing the excitement of the veterans he worked with at a Department of Veterans Affairs clinic in Springfield, OH, Earl was determined to find a way to get these veterans to fly to the Memorial and provide an escort while there at no cost to the veterans.
The first flight took off in 2005 and flew 12 veterans to the Memorial. In 2009, Honor Flight Network flew 17,832 veterans to see the Memorial. The plan is to expand this program to Korean and Vietnam veterans.
