Sock Hop! Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday the Service Way

Your club can celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday by helping others while having fun at a sock hop or reading at a read-a-thon, or collecting books for children in need.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, best known by his pen name Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904. His children's classics include The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Fox in Socks.

Kids Care Clubs can celebrate his "Birthday the Service Way by:

  • Holding a Kids Care Sock Hop
  • Making books for children in daycare centers or hospitals
  • Holding a Kids Care Read-a-thon to raise money to buy Dr. Seuss or other children's books to donate to a low-income day care center or pediatric clinic.
  • Collecting gently used children's books for low-income schools, shelters, group homes, low-income clinics. See KidsCare BookShare

Check out the National Educational Association (NEA)'s Read Across America program. It is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.

NEA's Read Across America provides NEA members, parents, caregivers, and children the resources and activities they need to keep reading on the calendar 365 days a year. For examples, you can download Dr. Seuss books to read digitally or order from their "Cat–a- Log.
