MLK -- Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -- Wall of Dreams

On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. His dream was equality for all Americans.

One of his dreams was for his children. "I have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today! ."

Read the "I Have A Dream" Speech in Issues Education. Your club can take excerpts from the speech, take paragraphs and illustrate it on a mural or in a picture. Your club can also make a mural about their own dreams about peace in their school, community, country or the world. See below:

Materials Needed:

  • Roll of butcher or colored paper
  • Markers

Steps Involved:

  1. Trace around each student's body onto butcher paper.
  2.  Direct the children to cut out the forms and draw their own portraits, clothes and other features.
  3. Have them write their dreams for peace on the body sections or in clouds, bubbles or circles above their heads.
  4. Join all the paper bodies by the hands and line the classroom walls with them or display them in a public space..
