SNAP Kids Care Club Teen Leads Sensitivity and Awareness Workshops

SNAPZachary Certner, an outstanding NJ teen from Morristown, NJ, brings SNAP's message of awareness and acceptance to Jefferson Elementary School. As a student, he saw the bullying and isolation special needs kids face. With his older borther, Matthew's help, he started a series of sensitivity training workshops in schools in northern New Jersey. In these workshops, blindfolds, balance balls, and other techniques were used to help fellow students experience firsthand the challenges faced by classmates with a variety of mental and physical disabilities. The students taking part in the clinics are reminded that, even though they can remove their blindfolds and then speak and read normally when the exercise is over, millions of children cannot. These workshops have been very successful.  Teachers and administrators have noted the changes seen in their students. 350 children went through sensitivity and awareness training for autism and special needs. Zach is a sophomore at Morristown High School and this year for Autism awareness he will have trained over 1000 students in his school district.
