The Wesley Kids Care Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma is off and running since last year, under the guidance of Pastor Chris Beach, the Club's dedicated facilitator. But, the Kids Care Summer Camp and Youth Leadership Academy is directed by Allie, age 7 and Joshua, age 8!
When no adults answered the call to help their facilitator direct the summer camp, the two young campers volunteered to serve as director and co-director. Allie, a bright 2nd grader, said that she took the position "because I thought I could help kids learn leadership."
Allie and Josha had a prior opportunity to put their leadership skills to the test. On April 28th, at the Tulsa City Council public needs hearing, Allie made a presentation that was a big hit with the city leaders. Allie said, "We told them about our plans and said we needed money for snacks and other things."
Allie named the camp "Kids Care Summer Camp and Youth Leadership Academy." Allie came up with most of the ideas for the camp activities including making pizza, field trips, swimming, games and Bible study. Following Allie and Joshua's lead, two teen-age brothers and several adults stepped forward to help them with the camp.
In late June, The Wesley Kids Care Club hosted a birthday party for seniors at the Rest Haven Nursing Home. Chris is proud of the club and their desire to lead and help others in their community. "These kids are our future," he says.
