West Woods Kids Care Club in Farmington, CT started in March 2009. The club has 60 participants and runs their projects at lunchtime at their school, West Woods Upper Elementary School. Their first project was "Smile It's Spring." The kids collected dental hygeine products and bagged them with a Kids Care label on each baggie. Over 100 baggies were donated to the Hands On Hartford low income senior housing facility.
In April, the kids held their "April Showers" collection and over 100 baggies of personal hygeine products were collected and bagged for a local soup kitchen.
In May, they participated in a "Snack Packs for Kids" project. They collected snacks for 2 inner city elementary schools where kids were identified as going home for the weekend to homes with, potentially, no food. The West Wood Kids Care Club members decorated bags and filled them. They collected over 60 bags.
Their final project was a field trip with 10 kids to a local soup kitchen where the kids helped prepare and serve meals to adults. Our club has been a huge success and we are excited looking forward to doing many more creative projects in the future.
