The wonderful weather during the first week of November gave the Wildes Corner Kids Care club both sunshine and inspiration to complete our November volunteer project. The project taught club members the history and value of celebrating Veterans Day. The club spent the morning writing and designing Veterans Day cards for RI Veterans. Parents and neighbors provided a list of home addresses for recipients of our cards. Our goal was to surprise our Veteran friends and neighbors with a card mailed to their home on November 10th. The response was unbelievable. Many club members received thank you phone calls. Again and again, the children heard, "This is the first Veterans Day card I have ever received." Club member, Sarah, received a heart felt visit and gifts from a distant relative whom she had never met. The gentleman made a visit to the local veterans center to let other veterans see his card and spread the news that people cared. Overall, our club received more than ten thank you cards with beautiful sentiments and praise for our children. I can't imagine a project ever touching my heart more.
